Our Active You programme puts your health and wellbeing at the heart of our service. Keeping active in a way that suits and works for you has many benefits for both your physical and mental well-being. Being active can help you to stay socially connected, manage weight and long-term health condition or simply enables you to enjoy quality time with friends and family.

Active You delivers a range of activities and services that inspire you to move more, have fun and connect with others in a safe and welcoming space were professional advice is always on hand.

So why not take a look at what we have to offer and try something new or even revisit a favourite activity …remember it’s never too late to move more.

All sessions are delivered by specialist educators/exercise instructors and are modified to provide low intensity exercise suitable for all ability levels.

Active You Classes

image of people participating in active you classA sociable and fun way to enjoy exercise, in a way that works for you. If standing for the duration of a 45 min class is difficult, the option to sit or stand can really help - it’s all about feeling comfortable and resting when you need to.

Improves your strength, mobility and confidence and the best bit there is always time for a chat!

Session may include the use of resistance bands and hand-held weights and are delivered by specialist GP exercise referral instructors.

Dance imageA mixture of Zumba Gold and Old School Aerobics dance classes, modified to reduce the intensity but not the fun. Dancing is one of the most enjoyable ways to move more and improve your physical and mental wellbeing. Join us on the studio dance floor, aerobic shimmy- shimmy or a Latino twist you choose! Wear loose comfortable clothing and supportive dance/sports shoes to enable freedom of movement.

Walking football imageOur walking pace sessions are designed to include all the enjoyment of taking part in your chosen activity but at a modified walking pace. Sessions include; Walking Netball, Walking Football, New Age Curling and New Age Bowls. Players of any ability and fitness level are welcome to take part. All sessions take place indoors so please wear loose comfortable clothing and appropriate footwear such as sports shoes/trainer.

Exercising with ParkinsonsTaking part in regular exercise can help to manage symptoms, slow down cognitive decline and keep you connected to a network of social support. Our weekly classes are delivered by specialist exercise instructors following Parkinson’s exercise recommendations. Classes include a mixture of endurance, cognitive, strength and balance exercises, along with fun activities designed to challenge and motivate you. Exercises can be performed seated or standing and partners / carers are welcome to join in too!

Weight and wellbeing sessionsThis is a 12-week group based, interactive and fun programme supporting weight loss and general health and wellbeing. Designed to empower and inspire you; each session will explore the most effective methods to lose weight and keep it off.

You will discover:

  • Practical tips to support weight loss, reduce cravings and increase energy levels
  • Address some of the myths and messages associated with weight management
  • The role different food groups can play in our ability to maintain a healthy weight
  • Understanding the impact of foods on our hormones and how we gain / lose weight
  • How eating plans such as timed-eating / fasting work and what the benefits are
  • How to achieve you goals by sustainable lifestyle changes - not short-term diets

Each 90-minute session will be delivered by an X-pert Health trained educator.

Eligibility

You must be 18 or over to enrol onto the programme. Please note enrolment is not suitable if pregnant, receiving treatment for a diagnosed eating disorder or receiving medical treatment for diabetes (insulin) or a complex gastric condition. If in doubt please seek the advice of your medical practitioner before enrolling.

Cost

Enrolment fee is £45 for 12 weekly sessions paid at the time of enrolment (approx. £3.75 per session). Includes a comprehensive Weight & Wellbeing handbook, physical activity taster sessions and all educator support.

Older people in spinning classesFun, beginner-friendly studio cycling classes where the emphasis is on steady-paced cycling with motivational music that you can sing-along to. Enjoy a great workout for your legs, core strength, and cardiovascular fitness that is kind on your joints. Making Easy Wheelers a great choice if you’re looking for ways to start or stay active without putting extra pressure on your joints! Join our Easy Wheeler community and pedal your way to a healthier you!

Are you currently registered with Stoke Recovery Service? If so, you may be eligible to receive a referral to access our Active Recovery Exercise Programme.

The referral programme offers free and supported access to leisure centre facilities including studio classes, gym-based activities and swimming sessions.

Participants will each receive a maximum of 20 weeks free access*. Specialist exercise instructors are on hand to offer inductions and practical advice on how to achieve and sustain healthy lifestyle change.

*Subject to eligibility and attendance criteria; funded by a public health grant.
