Walking Football group at Dimensions Leisure Centre

Join our friendly Walking Football group every Tuesday and Thursday from 2pm to 3pm on the newly upgraded 3G football pitches at Dimensions Leisure Centre.

Walking Football at Dimensions Leisure Centre

Led by specialist educators and exercise instructors, these sessions are carefully adapted to offer low-intensity exercise suitable for all fitness levels. Whether you're new to football or looking to get back into it, everyone is welcome!

Access to Walking Football is included in your gym membership, or you can join individual sessions for just £3.20.

"We play twice a week in all weather. I had never played football before and never knew I could. I’ve definitely improved my fitness and been told my skills have improved a bit too. The original ones are myself, Brian, Alan 84 who’s the oldest and Harry who’s just retired, he’s hung his boots up. Personally, it’s been a game changer for me… pun intended. Some have come and not stayed, others have joined us and we can’t get rid of them, it’s fast paced walking football so maybe not for everyone…it’s fun and very competitive, everyone thinks they are 19….and for those 2 hours a week we are. I am the only female and I try to give the lads a run for their money, they don’t hold back and I wouldn’t want them to. I tell my grandkids I’m not your normal gran. My lads find it hilarious but I know they’re also very proud. On the pitch we look after each other we all have nicknames and lots of banter and laughs every game. I love the swearing… mainly from me. I would love this to become a sitcom, there’s plenty of material. We have all become very good mates we arrange socials and an annual Xmas do. It’s changed my life and means a lot to me, I love playing and I love my footie brothers."

"Over the years I’ve tried to keep myself healthy by jogging and going to the gym etc . However, I had to motivate myself and it was easy to find an excuse as to why I couldn’t do it, but eventually telling myself I had to. Having not played any football for over 25 years I thought those days had long gone and the joy of being a part of a team and playing a match was a long lost passion. At the ripe old age of 67 watching local pub teams play, I kept saying I could’ve done that or why don’t they do this. I was longing to join them but even their vet teams are twenty years younger than me. Then a friend told me about the walking football at Dimensions. What a joy!!! Going down and meeting a group of enthusiastic deluded folk just as daft as I am. I found we have range of ages and abilities which all take the match very seriously but are able to laugh at our own mistakes and limitations. What a pleasure it is to meet up and run around thinking I’m in my twenties again. No one has to motivate me… but if I did need some encouragement I know there is 19-20 others who are spurring me on.
