Show Your Heart Some Love This February! It's National Heart Month!

February is National Heart Month, a time dedicated to raising awareness about our heart health and encouraging everyone to take steps to keep their hearts strong and healthy.

Get Your Heart Checked!

Knowing your blood pressure is a crucial step in maintaining heart health.

  • Fenton Pharmacy: Join Ange and Mandy from the Leisure and Wellbeing team at Fenton Pharmacy on Tuesday 18 February. They'll be offering blood pressure checks and providing valuable advice on healthy lifestyles. Don't miss this opportunity to get personalised guidance and learn how to make heart-healthy choices.
  • The Wallace: Stop by The Wallace on Wednesdays throughout February for a quick and easy blood pressure check between classes. We’re also encouraging everyone to show their support by wearing red in their community classes all month long!
  • Dimensions Leisure Centre: Get your blood pressure checked at Dimensions Leisure Centre on Mondays in February between classes. Like The Wallace, we’re also getting into the spirit by encouraging participants to wear red in community classes throughout the month.
  • Fenton Manor Sports Complex: Get your blood pressure checked at Shapes on Tuesdays in February between classes. The Parkinson's Class will be wearing red/pink on Friday 14 February, 1-2pm .Join them for a fun social gathering after class!

Why is Heart Health Important?

Heart disease is a leading cause of death, but many heart-related problems can be prevented or managed with healthy lifestyle choices. During National Heart Month, we want to empower you to take control of your cardiovascular health. Here are some simple steps you can take:

  • Eat a Heart-Healthy Diet: Focus on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean protein. Limit saturated and trans fats, cholesterol, and sodium.
  • Get Regular Exercise: Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate-intensity exercise most days of the week.
  • Maintain a Healthy Weight: Losing even a small amount of weight can have a positive impact on your heart health.
  • Don't Smoke: Smoking is a major risk factor for heart disease. Quitting is one of the best things you can do for your health.
  • Manage Stress: Find healthy ways to manage stress, such as exercise, relaxation techniques, or spending time with loved ones.

Let’s make heart health a priority not just in February, but all year round!

Our Active You programme offers exercise AND support! With a welcoming community where you can connect with others and friendly instructors ready to chat.
